EMN

15 years of EMN – summary of the most significant achievements from 2018 to 2022

For 15 years, the European Migration Network (EMN) has been providing objective, comparable and reliable information in the field of asylum and migration for policy making.

The EMN publication “Impactful Contributions 2018-2022” summarizes the main developments whose publications have played a crucial role in policy development and public awareness.

EMN Latvian contact point has made a significant contribution to the implementation of the publications and events mentioned in the summary, only some of them are mentioned below:

  • For example, in 2020, the contact point of EMN Latvia proposed a topic for the research work “Attraction of seasonal workers and protection of rights in the EU and the United Kingdom” and led its development. The research work was later used in Ireland to study the introduction of employment permits for seasonal work. The research work of the Slovak Republic was used as a source of information to develop the national labor mobility scheme.
  • The summary also mentions the benefit of Latvia’s migration policy from the EMN ad-hoc question systems, which was used to obtain information on the experience of other countries in introducing Nomad visa in 2021 and to create a one-stop agency for third-country nationals in 2022.
  • It was also emphasized that in 2022 the EMN was held for the first time during the Youth Day event. This allowed young people from Latvia and ten other European Union activities in a single hybrid event.
  • We are proud that the Asylum and Migration Dictionary app and discussion tool “Destination: Europe” of the European Migration Network is also available in Latvian for those interested.

For more information on the use of EMN works from 2008 to 2017, EMN has prepared an extensive report in English, which is available here.
